seogu In A.D 475, it was south Jubu-tokun in the Period of three States, and then it was changed to Jangje-kun in Silla Dynasty, and it was changed to Suju in Koryo Dynasty and then in was changed to Annam-bu, Kyeyang-Bu, Kilju-mok and Bupyong Taeje-bu etc.,and then it was changed to Mowolgot-myun and Sukgot-myon of Bupyong-doho-bu in Chosun Dynasty, and then it was changed to Seoget-myon, Bucheon-gun in 1914, and finally it was changed to Seogot-myon, Incheon-bu April 1, 1940.
Geomam-dong
  • Geomam means a black rock in Korean. It stands beside the fence of Seo Incheon high school with its girth20 meters. Formerly, it was Geomam-ri, Sogot-myun, Bucheon-gun by unfiying Wolkot-myun, Bupyeong-gun, and renamed as Geomam-dong after the liberization of Korea in 1945. Presently, land readjushment.

Beakseok-dong
  • Beakseok-dong is named after white stones covered with the peak of rear mountain in the area. It was Paekseok-ri, Sokot-myun, Bupyeong-gun in the old days. Having unified Mowolkot myon, Bupyeong in 1914, it become Sokot-myon, Bupyeong-gun but it was renamed as Baekseok-dong in 1946.
Sicheon-dong
  • Sicheon means the place where a stream, originates from the valley of Mr. Gyeyang named Sicheon. there is a stream being called as “sicheon”in these days. Formerly it was paesok-ri, Sokot-myon, Bucheon-gun, but became Sokot-myon, Bupyeong-gun in 1914 Sicheon-dong has been named since.
Gyeongseo-dong
  • Gyeongseo-dong means the town which is located in the west of Kyungnol-hyun, formerly Kojan-ri, Sokot-myon, Bupyeong-gun. It belonged to sokot-myon by unifying Wolkot-myon, Bupyeong-gun in 1914, and was renamed as Gyeongseo-dong in 1946. Because it situated western seaside, there were manu salt farms and islands such as chungra-do, Namji-do, Sormunjum-do, Sa-do, etc. After completion of the land reanation work the area of 3,300 ha has been emerged and many islands became lands.
Yeonhui-dong
  • It was called Yeonhui-dong because in the era of Shillam, women serving high ranking officals were brought here to teach them songs and dance. Formerly, it was Simgok-ri, Sokot-myon, Bupyeong-gun in 1914. In 1977, 3 dongs(district) were unified and named as Yeonhui-dong. this district is composed of fam villages such as “Yangkmal”, “Toutgol”, “Sadong”. Presently land readjustment work has been completed and there are public insitutes, being the center of Seo-gu.
Simgok-dong
  • Simgok-dong means a village formed in a deep mountain velley. Fomerly, it was Yeonkokri, Sokot-myon, but became Sokot-myon, Bucheon-gun, unitiry Mowolkot-myon, Bucheongun in 1914. It was transferred to Incheon-bu, and was named as Simgok-dong since 1946.
Gongchon-dong
  • It was called as Gongchon-ri in the past daus and was Gongchon-ri, Sokot-myon, Bupyeong-gun during the age of the end of old Korea. In 1940, it was incorporated into Incheon and renamed as Gongchon-dong in 1946, belonging to Yeonhui-dong.
Gajeong-dong
  • Gajeong-dong means the place pf a house where Pan Cho who was decoted to open Chosun Dynasty composed poem with cultivating. In the age of the end of old Korea it was Gajeong-ri, Mowolkot-myon. It was united with Sokot-myon, Bokheung-gun and incorporated into Incheon city in 1940. There are natural villages named as “Witmal”, “Areamal”, “Dolokol”, “San-Ahkokae”ect., in Gajeong-dong. Standing in this district is a mounument of Columbia soldiers who had participated in Korea War. Gajeong-dong is administratively divided into Gajeong 1,2,3 dongs.
Sinhyeon-dong
  • Sinhyeon-dong is named after a “New hill”in Korean. It was Sinhyeon-ri, Mowolkot-myon,
    Bupyeong-gun, but was incorporated into Sokot-myon, Bucheon-gun. In the beginning of 1940, it was call as “Hyunmu-jeong”, but was renamed as Sinhyeon-dong since the end of 1940, There are natural villages such as “Sekokae”, “KusuKmal”, “Yankynmal”, “Yokol”,“Kaundaemal”etc.
Wonchang-dong
  • Wonchang-dong was a place where grains paid for a tax were stored. Formerly, it was named as Po-ri, Mowolkot-myon, Bupyeong-gun. In 1914, it was renamed as Sokot-myon, Bupyeong -gun, by unifying Sokot-myon, Bucheon-gun, however, in 1946, it was named as Wonchang-dong. There are natural villages such as “Ketmal”, “Hanjeokgol”, “Changkomal”.
Seongnam-dong
  • Formerly, it was Goejan-ri, Gajwa-ri, Mowolkot-myon, Bupyeong-gun, but after in corporation into Incheon city 1940, Seongnam-ri became Chonsang-chong, Gajwa-ri to Chundaejeon-jeong, Shonhyon-ri to Hyunmu-jeung. There are “Bongwoo-jae”, “Bunji-ji”, “Gajwa”, “Otwoomul”in this district. This district had attained a drastic development after opening of Kyungin High-way. It is presetly composed of 3 dongs(districts) named as Seongnam 1,2 and 3dongs.
Gajwa-dong
  • Its popular name is ‘Gaegeonno’elonged to Mowolkot-myon, Bupyong-kun, and then it was combined with Sukkot-myon, Bupyong-gun in 1914 and became Seokot-myon, Bucheon-gun. It was assigned to Incheon-bu in 1940 and became ‘chonkanjung’, and then it became Gajwa-dong in 1946. there are many natural villages such as ‘Gamakul’, ‘Nungan’, ‘Gunjigol’, ‘Salkuji’and Naejipnae’ect., now it is divided into 4 Gajwa-dong.
Geomdan-dong
  • It was Gimpo-hyun during the Koryo Dynasty, but Taejong 14(1414) it became ‘Kumyanghyun’ in August, and then it was assigned to Gimpo-hyun, but it was changed to ‘Kumneung-kun’Injo 10(1623), and then it was changed from ‘Gimpo-hyun’to ‘Gimpo - Kun’in end of Chosun Dynasty and the name is continued until today. And then it was divided into 3 myons, but in 1914, 3 myon such as Nojangmyon(Weondang, Dangha), Majang-myon(Majon, Bulo and Daekok) and Geomdanmyon(Kumneung, Oryu and Wanggil) were combined and it became Geomdan-myon, ‘Geom’means black color and ‘Dan’means red color, the name originated from color of costal area, and then it was changed to Geomdan-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon City on Mar 1, 1995 due to administrative district adjustment plan. And now it consists of 8-legal dong of Majeon-dong, Dangha-dong, Wondang-dong, Bulrodong, Daegok-dong, Gumgok-dong, Oryu-dong, Wangil-dong.
Majeon-dong
  • This village was called Ma-San Myeon until late Cho-Sun dynasty. It is said that this village has been called Ma-Jeon(‘Ma’means flax plant and ‘Jeon’means field in English) because flax plants was raised in this area in large scale. Here are many kinds of administrative and financial offices.
Dangha-dong
  • Once there was ‘altar’in Mt. Je-Rim and there was a village below the ‘altar’. So, this village has been called Dang-Ha Dong. (‘Dang’means altar and ‘Ha’means below in English.)
Wondang-dong
  • There was an altar called ‘Won Dang’in this village in early Cho-sun dynasty. So, this village has been named ‘Won Dang’. Also, it is said that here was a lot of forest near Mt. Buk-Seong. The ouses of this village were built of good-quality timbers. In this reason, this village was called “Won-Dang”.
Bullo-dong
  • This village belonged to ‘Ma-San Myeon’in late cho-sun dynasty. According to legends, there were all kinds of herbs including ginseng in front of Mt, Man-Soo. One day an old man climbed this mountain and took ginseng and herbs. Unknowingly, after that he lived much longer. Since then, the rumor spreaded that there was a herb bringing eternal youth in this village. Many people came to get the herb from all over the country. So, this village has been called ‘Eternal Youth’village. In 1914, both Galmaeri and Mokgiri was included Gumdanmyeon as Bullori by merger and abolition of dministrative blocks.
Daegok-dong
  • It is said that this village has been called ‘Han-Gol’, ‘Hwang-Gol’, ‘Wang-Gok’or ‘Dae- Gok’(These names means big valley in English.) There was record about medical wormwood in “Geographical part of King Se-Jong’s Historical Record”The story was as follows. There was trade between Ko-Ryo dynasty and China in barter system. The major trade items were medical herbs and ceramics of China and mats woven with flower designs and ginseng of Ko-Ryo. Especially, the best-quality wormwoods were produced in Kang-Hwa and Kim-Po areas. It is said that wormwoods in West Cape was best of the best. ‘Wormwood Dang’is the old name of ‘Kyeong-Seo Dong’The medical herb marketers traded in west-sea market in ‘Gae-Yang’ and ‘Bal-A’market(now Gum-Am Dong)internationally. Marketers lodged at the big valley village. This is the ‘Dae-Gok Dong’. Now, the Chinese and Japanese consider the wormwood of the west area(Seo cape and Andongpo) the best. In 1914, according to the merger and abolition of administrative blocks, this area with Doogokri was included into Gumdanmyeon as Daegokri.
Gumgok-dong
  • Once a geomancer passed by this village and told the villagers that there would be many lumps of metal in the back mountain of the village. Since then, this village has been called ‘Gumgokri’. The gold was dug from This village until ruling period of Japan. After the restoration of independence , a lot of steel was dug. That area is Gumgokri mt.200. In 1914, according to the merger and abolition of administrative blocks, this area with Sinri and Jwadong was named Gumgokri.
Oryu-dong
  • There were a lot of paulownia tree in this village before the middle period of Cho-Sun dynasty. Beside them, there stood a willow tree. So, this village was named after these trees. (‘O’means a paulownia tree and ‘Ryu’means a willow tree.) In 1914, according to the merger and abolition of administrative blocks, this area with Banwolchon, Bonghwachon, and Daechon was named Oryuri.
Wanggil-dong
  • It is said that a wanderer of in the middle period of Cho-Sun dynasty said that if this village were named as ‘Wanggil’, there would be virtue and prosperity in this village. So, this village was named ‘Wanggil’. In 1914, according to the merger and abolition of administrative blocks, this area with Sowanggilri, Andongpo, and Dongsagotri was named ‘Wangilri’
